Etruria, from what I've read, was a northern extension of the Phoenician civilization. This is fascinating, as much of the Etruscan legacy has been unearthed in the Po Valley, well inland from both the Adriatic and Tyrrhenian Seas.
It’s strange. I’ve been trying for some time now to find out more about the Etruscans, their origin, their disappearance. But all I keep coming across are theories, nothing solid. As if this people were destined to remain elusive. It may, of course, be that I’m not finding the right sources.
It’s possible that the etruscans never used that name for themselves and I’d just what modern academia refers to them as. Is there any evidence of these people referred to themselves? There could have been many different named communities that have all been shoved in one box. I don’t know much about them either but that would be the search route I would go.
