The article states that it is a previously unattested artistic style. But, I was immediately reminded of the Rapi Nui statues of the Moai. Studying the animal on which the person was riding, I'sd say it was a horse rather than a leopard. There is most definirely what appears to be a bridle on the animal with which the person riding could hold and stear. Just my initial thoughts.
